Dark Legacy is an amazing continuation of the Vance Legacy. Every page keeps you wanting to know more about how these three women will overcome their circumstances. F. Haywood Glenn, has a way of writing that puts you along side the characters and allows you to be the "fly on the wall" for every conversation, decision, and new beginning. If you want to read a book that keeps you wanting more, do not hesitate to read Dark Legacy. Being a Philly native, I love being able to read a book about my hometown and knowing the exact places the author is referring too . This novel brings to life what life was like in Philadelphia in 1839 and does not disappoint. The history is rich in this novel and I could picture each scene clearly, as if I were watching a movie. I tend not to like books of this nature, but I am so thankful that I picked this novel up. You will not be disappointed reading this well written story. What a great read, I highly recommend it!Product details

I truly loved the writing of F. Haywood-Glenn of the book "The Vance Legacy" and so glad I got to read this one. The story was told in such a way that you enjoy reading it. We were introduced to a few new characters and surprising members of the Vance family. I hope to read more of the Vance family legacy.
After leaving Virginia, the Vance women, Beth, Lillian and Rebecca seek new beginnings in Philadelphia but soon find out that racism continues to follow them, even “up north”. The author deals with the issue of “passing” for white in a powerful way. After reading her first novel, The Vance Legacy, I loved the way the author chose to develop her characters in her second novel, Dark Legacy. I also enjoyed the historical references found in Philadelphia such as what it was like for free slaves to live and or work in 1839 always being aware they could be recaptured and returned to a southern plantation. Much assistance given to free slaves in Philadelphia was from one of the first African-American Churches in the United States, Mother Bethel A.M.E. Praise to F. Haywood Glynn on her second page turning novel, Dark Legacy.
